Nordic SkiingNordic Ski Trails Call the Telluride Nordic Association for current grooming and conditions, 970.728.1144. For a map of regional Nordic trials, go to maps & trails. Please respect efforts to keep these trails in top shape and leave dogs at home when skiing on maintained tracks. Idarado Legacy Trail Just east of Telluride Town Park, a gentle intermediate trail follows the San Miguel River and extends toward the end of the valley. With magnificent views of the box canyon and only a few miles round trip, this is a quick and satisfying work out. Priest Lake This is a 9-km groomed track that is appropriate for all levels and is eight miles south of Telluride on Highway 145. Park at the USFS Ranger Station on the left. (Dogs allowed.) Telluride Golf Course Open fairways mark the 12 km of Nordic trails on the scenic Telluride Golf Course in Mountain Village that can be accessed from The Peaks Resort or the Gondola Station Parking lot in Mountain Village. (Dogs are not allowed.) TopATen Touring Area Ten kilometers of scenic, groomed Nordic trails await the intermediate and advanced classic and skate skier at the top of Lift 10. Nordic day passes to ride Lift 10 are available at the Mountain Village Activity Center, but advanced skiers with strong lungs can access the area for free by skiing uphill on the Galloping Goose ski run. The adventurous skier can glide from Magic Meadows beyond the ski area boundary to the historic mining town of Alta Lakes. Restrooms, a picnic deck and teepee warming hut are opn to the public at TopATen daily. Trail maps are available at the trailhead or at the Mountain Village Information Center and Mountain Village Activity Center. (Dogs are not allowed.) Town Park Stretch your ski legs on 3 km of circuit track that is appropriate for all ability levels and especially perfect for a quick noon workout. (Dogs are not allowed.) Trout Lake/Lizard Head Pass The old railroad grade on the east side of the famously scenic Trout Lake is groomed for approximately 6 km to the top of Lizard Head Pass, providing excellent intermediate skiing terrain. (Dogs allowed.) Valley Floor Fifteen km of groomed track that begins from Mahoney Drive/Shandoka parking lot and extends west onto the valley floor. (Dogs are not allowed.) Nordic Lessons Group lessons are available daily from PSIA-certified instructors at 11 a.m. at the Nordic Center in Telluride Town Park. Private lessons are available by request. To book lessons, call the Telluride Nordic Center at 970-728-1144. Telluride Nordic Center Located at the east end of Town Park in the historic Unruh House. Here you can rent ice skates, and classic and skate ski packages for kids and adults are available. Wax and incidentals are available. Open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. Extended hours when ice rink is open for public skating. Nordic Rentals Classic cross-country and skate skis, boots and poles are available in Telluride and Mountain Village at Paragon Ski and Sport (800.903.4525) and Telluride Sports (800.828.SKIS) and in Telluride Town Park at the Nordic Center (970.728.1144).
